Spark An Idea Thursday: Social Knitting

I've been going to knitting night with the local Sit 'N Knit group for a few weeks now. This is a huge deal for me, as I am almost cripplingly introverted. It has been a real boon to me, though, and not just for the social interaction. There's something about watching other people knit (in a non-teaching environment) that broadens your mind about the craft. Even if you've been knitting for years, you can still pick up things by seeing all the different ways things are done. From throwing or picking, to how you hold the yarn and needles, to different project bag styles. And seeing what other people are working on is very inspiring. I've learned a lot about yarn selection in the few times I've knit with these other women, and I've also discovered new pattern books that I never knew existed. And if I hadn't found this group, I'd never have known about the alpaca farm that's only a short drive away! Check out local groups in your town. Communing with other knitters is a wonderful experience, and you'll never know what you might learn from them.
